Big news, everyone!
We’re going global! π
Devex, a leading platform for the international development community, just featured us in an article showcasing 19 local organizations making a difference worldwide.
It’s incredible to see our work recognized on such a prominent stage!
They even said this about us:
“When many people think of incubators or accelerators, they picture large business initiatives born out of high-income countries. Yet Twende is a local incubator β backed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Segal Family Foundation, Australian Aid, AfriLabs, among others β that is accelerating local technological innovations across the country.”
How cool is that?! We’re so thrilled to be recognized for our work championing grassroots innovators and driving homegrown innovation in Tanzania! πͺ
Why We Do What We Do:
At Twende, we’re passionate about building a generation of problem solvers. We believe that everyone has the potential to be an innovator, and we’re committed to providing the training, resources, and mentorship to make that happen.
From sustainable agriculture and clean energy to assistive technology and education, we’re helping local innovators create solutions that address the challenges they face every day.
Meet Our Amazing Innovators featured in the article:
This Devex feature puts the spotlight on two incredible members of our community:
Edgar Edmund: In 2015, Edgar attended our Creative Capacity Building workshop and developed a machine that transforms plastic waste into sustainable building materials, addressing both housing shortages and environmental pollution. He later expanded his work to create a model that recycles plastic into lumber used for furniture and even construction projects. Now, he even exports his products abroad, with a strong clientele in Denmark. You can check out his products and support his work through his online store, which ships worldwide! His company, Green Venture, now employs over 100 people in both direct and indirect jobs!

Colman Ndetembea: Colman and his co-founders Eamon & Sudi collaborated with Jaffery Schoolsβ disability department in 2018 as part of the Jamii Tech Program to co-create a multipurpose wheelchair for students with cerebral palsy. This project led to the formation of Kyaro Assistive Tech, an organization which now manufactures appropriate and accessible assistive technologies for African communities.

Creating Impact Together:
We’re proud to be more than just a makerspace. We’re a hub for collaboration, learning, and growth.
Here’s how we’re making a difference:
Hands-on learning: Our workshops and programs provide practical skills and knowledge, empowering individuals to turn their ideas into reality.
Community-driven solutions: We foster a collaborative environment where innovators can connect, share ideas, and build solutions that address local needs.
Sustainable impact: We support innovators in developing and scaling their solutions, creating lasting change in their communities.
This Devex feature is a huge encouragement for us, and we’re so grateful for the support of our incredible community.
We can’t wait to see what we accomplish together in the future! π
